Ho hum ...

I'm amazed I've actually managed to get online tonight. The PC threw a major wobbly last night and crashed spectacularly. I couldn't get it to reboot even in any variation of safe mode or boot disk, so I ended up having to do a complete rebuild today.
Just as well I had most of my data backed up. Although I hadn't got around to backing up a lot of the system stuff and programs and such - hence there's a ton of stuff that I have to download from the internet, not to mention updates and such. Four years' worth *sigh*.

I spent about 8 hours rebuilding the thing today, and it's still pretty fragile and really basic just now. If only I had the money to get a whizzy new laptop or something, so I could just plug it in and have it all just work.

Gah, technology. I get enough of having to get the stuff to function at my job.

Just so as you know, if I don't reply to an email or comment on your fic, it's likely to be 'technical difficulties'.

I think it will be a while before I get everything installed again and working properly.

Actually I think it's probably more like five or six years' worth of installs and updates and changes, etc. It's amazing the stuff you accumulate in that time - my hard drive was due for a good clearout anyway (considering that it was literally 99% full) but this was kind of a drastic way to do it!
At least I have internet access for now *clings*

Meep! I really should be better at backing my stuff up, especially the fic, I'd be in a right state if I lost all my primeval fic, let alone the old original fiction stuff that I wrote ages ago.

Hope you get your sorted out soon. Although that does explain why you've been a bit quite the last day or so.

I was quite lucky, in that I bought an external hard drive recently, so I had most of the stuff that I wanted to keep backed up to that.

It's been a busy time recently, with one thing or another (and I've ended up reading loads of Professionals fics from the archives mentioned in the Sunday discussion on Denial a few weeks ago - not like I need to acquire yet another fandom! *g*).
