Saturday, 23 February 2008 01:43I HAS U23D TICKETZ YAY!!!!
(Well, a booking reference number.)
*spazzes*
Taking the family off to the depths of Teesside to see The Film tomorrow.
I had planned to take the kids out for the day today, but by the time we got our act together (and negotiated the ridiculous traffic in Newcastle - seriously, 15 minutes queueing to negotiate a single roundabout, what is up with that?), there wasn't much point going to the museum as we'd only have about 10 minutes there before it closed. So we decided to try the open-air ice rink at the Centre For Life - we had plenty of time till the closing time on the notice, great stuff. But when we went to buy the tickets - no, sorry, it had been closed all day due to high winds.
So we ended up going to Lush to buy some bath bombs and then to Costa Coffee for cake, then walked down to the Quayside to see the bridges all lit up. We walked across the Millennium bridge - Fi liked the different coloured floodlighting, but wasn't too keen on being able to see the water through the floor of the cycle path ("It's too high up.")
There was a guy busking at the end of the bridge - playing the bagpipes. Which you don't see every day in this neck of the woods.
Then we walked back along the river and drove home. With the car radio on. A Beach Boys song came on, and for some reason which still escapes me, the girls found it absolutely hilarious o_0
*is confused*
I will never understand the younger generation.
C did, however, also appreciate the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band's rendition of "Let's Kill All The Beautiful People" which Husband had playing on the CD player in the kitchen when we got back, so he thinks she has Potential.
All in all, the girls seemed to think that they'd had a fantastic day out, although we hadn't actually done anything Day-Out-ish, so as long as they're happy, I'm happy.
In other news, I have acquired yet another fandom - Primeval. Being half-term, I had time to go raking about online for a bit, and tracked down a Primeval fanfic comm, so am currently ploughing my way though lots of fics with anomalies, confused timelines, flesh-eating dinosaurs, characters swopping between alternate realities and various degrees of smut. I still have to decide on a preferred OTP, although Connor is rather cute, bless him and his dodgy dress sense and geekiness and cute smile. Somehow the fact that I am old enough to be his mother should probably mitigate against it, but, inevitably, hasn't stopped me.
Oh lord, I do not need another fandom, I have way too little time on my hands as it is *sigh*. They just all have such delicious potential ...

Date: Saturday, 23 February 2008 08:15 (UTC)Plus, in what's laughingly called "real" life, Andrew Lee-Potts is Hannah Spearitt's boyf, so no great stratch of teh mad acting skillz there...
Enjoy the movie!

Date: Sunday, 24 February 2008 18:04 (UTC)Why do you think Helen keep popping back through the anomalies? It's to pay frequent visits to the lingerie shops, of which there are probably very few in the Permian era. From what I've read on the fandom so far, her cleavage is practically a character in its own right (the 'Fiery Cleavage of Doom' is a quote from a comment I read today) *g*
Yup, I saw the interview with them both and Jonathon Ross. Aww, young love, bless!
There is a theory in fanfic meta that it's actually easier to write fanfic about creative works/tv shows/films etc that are slightly flawed but you love anyway, rather than about works that you consider absolute genius and perfection. With the former, you don't have any compunction about taking off on tangents from canon, or exploring areas you don't think were covered by the original. Whereas with the latter, you feel as if you can't improve on perfection, so why write anything?
And the movie was lovely :D

Date: Sunday, 24 February 2008 10:38 (UTC)Do not resist the Primeval fandom, it is fun and full of pretty men and dinosaurs - where is the bad!
"Somehow the fact that I am old enough to be his mother should probably mitigate against it, but, inevitably, hasn't stopped me."
*giggle* I'm only a couple of years older than the actor, but I think the character is meant to be much younger. It hasn't stopped me either *grin*

Date: Sunday, 24 February 2008 18:21 (UTC)The Primeval fandom is indeed irresistible. The only drawback for me is that I'm liable to be sucked into reading lots of yummy fanfic when I should be doing something more boring but necessary relating to work/teaching/studycourse 1/study course 2/kids & husband/housework/dance troupe ...
He is so dorky and geeky and sweet! *pets him*
