Bugger.

You know it's not a good sign when the guy in the garage says "I've got bad news for you" ...

The car failed its MOT test.
It will cost £399 to fix.
And ... they can't get the part for 4 weeks.

So we're stuck with no transport for the next month - right at the start of the school holidays. Including the weekend we were going to drive down to visit Alan's family (and go to the 100th anniversary Shelsley Walsh Motor Racing Hill Climb) so Alan is pretty pissed off. And even if I get the first bus I can't get the girls to the holiday club and get into work before core flexitime hours.

*curses profusely*

Luckily the next door neighbour agreed to drop off and pick up the girls tomorrow (although she did say to drop them off around half past 8, and I didn't realise till I got back that the last bus that will get me to work in time goes at quarter past).

Mel (R, not sunsetmog), if you're reading this tonight, any chance of a lift to work tomorrow morning?

I'm sorry, honey. That's horrible! Is a rental a possibility for the time being? I'm trying to pretend mine doesn't need the $1000 worth of work that it does. *hugs* I hope you can work something out until you have it back.

Cars, eh? They can be such a hassle :(

Thanks m'dear - we might consider renting, if only for the weekend that we were going away - depends if we can afford it. We'll have to see.

Our neighbours and friends are pretty good at helping out - I just don't like to ask too often, y'know?

Oh, that sucks, sweetie. How do cars know just when we need them most? Mine always broke down whenever my Dad left the country. O_o.

I hope you can manage the rental thing so you can still have your weekend. ::hugs::

A colleague I was speaking to on the phone today (who incidentally has the most gorgeous irish accent *g*) said, when he was thinking about getting a car, his dad told him to light a bonfire and throw fivers at it instead, as it would be cheaper.

Sadly, it might get you warm but you still wouldn't have any transport.

I think we'll manage - people are being very helpful :)

*hugs you back*
