She's just phoned up from the All-Ireland Busking Festival at Dundrum to say that they've won again! A trophy and £100 - she didn't say which prize, but I'd guess it 'Most Unusual Act' again, that's what they won in previous years.
Just to clarify, my Mum and three of her friends go off to Ireland for a holiday every year and tour round all the music festivals (and the pubs) and join in all the sing-songs. The first year they were there, they saw a busking festival and, for a laugh, decided to enter. They were gobsmacked when they won a prize! So of course they had so much fun they do it every year now, touring around Ireland and doing all the busking competitions they come across (and there seem to be quite a few). They play guitar and sing, mostly Scottish and/or humorous songs. Everyone is highly amused to see this bunch of grey-haired little old ladies busking in their 'Blast From The Past' t-shirts, lol. They've even started doing concerts back home in Scotland, and were invited back to Ireland specially for a St.Patrick's Day festival this year and paid £500.
Quite a change of direction for a retired primary school headmistress! (she'll be 76 next month).
She asked me for a set of bongos for Christmas year before last, so that she could take 'em busking.
They're off to Sligo, more busking in another week's time.
I hope I'm as eccentric at her age :)
