One of my colleagues at work is a volunteer with the North Of Tyne Search & Rescue Team, and sent round an email last week asking us to vote for their bid in the People's Millions lottery fund tomorrow, Monday 23rd November.
Although people tend to assume they just do mountain rescue stuff, they also help with flood evacuations and other major civil incidents - I know he was heavily involved in rescuing people during the Morpeth floods last year.
Although I haven't heard if they're involved with the current flooding in Cumbria, as it's further west from us, it seems an appropriate time to highlight what they do.
