Four loads of laundry so far today (and still a ton to do tomorrow). Eldest daughter got back from her first school camp/outward bound thingy (three days and two nights in the Lake District) and seems to have created an inordinate amount of laundry in the process. Goodness knows what possessed me to send her off to do ghyll-scrambling and canoeing and such-like in white socks. (Probably the fact that hardly any of her coloured ones fit her any more). Anyway the laundry basket smelt (not unpleasantly) of boggy moorland. It was striking how the mud was so different from the stuff she is usually clarted in from next door's garden - more peaty, with bits of moorland plants here and there. Reminds me of Glenlivet and visiting my Gran.

I think C quite enjoyed the camp - I think she got a little homesick though. She's been unusually affectionate since she got home, coming up to me and hugging me round the middle. It's been nice actually - she seems to spend a lot of time arguing with me and I spend half my time nagging her to get ready for school or bed, or whatever, so I think the break did us good, reminding us of how much we do love each other altho most of the time it's taken for granted. It was kind of weird to just have one of them at home. A sight more peaceful though!

C's birthday today. Nine years since she was born. Scary how time passes, although I can barely remember what it was like B.C. (Before Children) :)

The old sandpit full of rainwater is now officially a Pond. Since C acquired 20 tadpoles from next door, I felt obliged to go and get some oxygenating plants so the poor things wouldn't suffocate in its murky depths. (It's only about 10cm deep but you can't see the bottom.) Anyway, now that we have some plants and stones in it, it looks quite good. Has almost revived some enthusiasm for gardening. Garden is looking v.lush (for which read: full of weeds). Am gradually working up to doing a spot of gentle pottering about, now that the weather is getting warm. The apple tree looks gorgeous - absolutely covered in blossom. I wonder how old it is? It looks pretty ancient. Doubt if it's as old as the house (1720), but it wouldn't surprise me if it were over 100 years.

Right, better see what's on Monaboyd and then get to bed.
