I've just been to pick up my daughter from youth theatre rehearsal at her school and had to make a detour just before the road her school is on, because the police had closed off the road. I went the long way round and saw the other end of the road-block just at the junction onto the school's road. Thought it was an accident or something, as they had the 'Police - Accident' signs up and had blocked off the road with police cars with the flashing lights.

It wasn't until I got to the school and one of the older kids who helps with youth theatre (who happens to be the 17-year-old who lives next door to us) came out and told us that they weren't letting the kids out until someone came to collect them, as there was a gunman wandering around town and they weren't sure where he was!

Needless to say, I took a circuitous route home without stopping to do the recycling.

This was 15 minutes ago - we've just this minute got home - so I expect it's still going on.

Exactly! I makes you think, if it can happen places loke Whitehaven and here, is anywhere safe?

The police have cordoned off a fairly restricted area, so I expect it might just be a domestic incident with some guy waving an air rifle out of the window after a row with his missus (I hope). The only mention of it so far on the local BBC news website is on the Travel section saying that bit of road was closed because of a 'police incident'.

Still too close for comfort. Glad I only found out about it after I'd got to the school else I'd have been way stressed about C!
